Visionary Leadership

Outstanding schools are built, led, and sustained by great leaders. Since KIPP was founded, it has been our belief that it is the school leader who attracts talented teachers, fosters their growth and development, and creates a culture of excellence for all. We further believe that leaders must be empowered to freely and autonomously make the decisions that will best meet the needs of their students and school community.

Leadership Development

For the past decade, KIPP, through the KIPP School Leadership Programs (KSLP), has been training and developing school leaders for underserved communities cross the country. KSLP now consists of six distinct developmental leadership programs serving teacher leaders to regional leaders.

Sharing our practices

Made possible by the federal i3 funding and matching partner grants, KIPP has offered the KIPP Leadership Design Fellowship for the past two years. KLDF is an eight-month program designed for administrators of public school districts, charter school systems, and leadership training organizations. KLDF provides intensive training on KIPP’s principal development model.

Leading for longer

Our data shows us that school leader longevity is correlated with several positive outcomes, including lower student attrition, higher teacher retention, and, most importantly, greater student achievement gains.

Since the job of leading a school is not easy, we have wondered: “Is there a set of behaviors that characterize great school leaders and make the job sustainable over the long-haul?”
